Chengdu Meishi International School – IB Division
The International Baccalaureate (IB) develops and offers IB programs to young people around the world and prepares them for success at university and life beyond. Its aim is to help create a better world through offering high-quality international programs.
The IB was established in 1968. It is a non-profit educational foundation registered in UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and a globally recognized international education pioneer. Currently, there are over 5303 IB world Schools in 150 countries.
The IB's education philosophy is to cultivate youth to be inquirers, knowledgeable, and caring citizens, in order to make a better and more peaceful world. Hence, the IB develops uniform curriculum standards and rigorous assessment systems for all the IB World Schools. In addition, IB encourages students to become active and caring lifelong learners so that they can understand and show appreciation for diverse cultures.
Authorized by the IB, Chengdu Meishi International School is an IB World School, offering the IB Continuum of the PYP, the MYP and the DP to our students. Chengdu Meishi International School is the only school in southwestern China that offers all three IB programmes.
The IB offers three programmes based on different age groups: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). These three IB programmes are inter-connected but self-contained. IB World Schools may choose to offer only one IB programme, any combination of two programmes, or all three programmes.
Providing opportunities for character-building
To align with IB standards and practices, the PYP at CMIS integrates concept-driven, inquiry-based framework with national curriculum. The goal is to build up a harmonious learning community and offer core and extra-curriculum to help students achieve the 10 attributes of the IB learner profile.
The IB PYP is built around six transdisciplinary themes of global significance. Students explore different themes through teacher's instruction and students-led collaborative planning. In the process, the students will understand important concepts, master basic knowledge and skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Strictly adhering to the worldwide standards of IB-MYP, CMIS practices inquiry-based teaching. Under the MYP framework, comprehensive curriculum and evaluation system encourage students to develop holistically and be active lifelong learners.
The MYP at CMIS is learner-centered and aims to cultivate IB learner profile attributes. It emphasizes on the process of inquiry, action and reflection. The teaching situation includes identity and relationship, orientation of time and space, personal and cultural expression, scientific and technical innovation, globalization and sustainability, fairness and development. And the MYP has eight subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Mathematics, Arts, Physical and Health Education and Design. It pays attention to interdisciplinary cooperation, student's development and critical thinking skills.
The DP was authorized by the IB Organization in February 2009. The language of instruction is English. Textbooks are English versions. All of the DP teachers hold official IB training certificates as well as continuous professional development in CMIS. Most of our DP teachers are also IB examiners. CMIS adopts the same standard and assessment systems that are shared world-wide.
Since its founding in 2008, all of our DP graduates have been accepted by prestigious universities in U.S.A., the U.K., Canada, and Australia. For illustration, our students have gained admissions to excellent universities such as the University of Notre Dame, New York University and University of Southern California in USA; Durham University in the UK; University of Toronto and University of British Columbia in Canada; The University of Melbourne and The University of Sydney in Australia, and Waseda University in Japan.
